Where to eat
There are a few canteens at ETH Hönggerberg: see the map here. For lunch we recommend either Physics (in the conference building, it’s where the coffee breaks are), or Fusion (building HCI, large buffet on the first floor, Indian and wraps on the ground floor).
Bring a student card, and depending on the goodwill of the cashier they may give you a student discount (these are not granted for external students, but you may get lucky). These are open for lunch and early dinner.
For dinner, the cheapest places are ETH/University canteens (if you dine early), and falafel take-away joints. Pizza is great in Zurich due the proximity with Italy. We have some suggestions for cafés and restaurants on the map. Remember that we will feed you on Monday and Wednesday.
Where to stay
See here a list of hostels and other accommodation options in Zurich. Check also airbnb. Something else that works surprisingly often is to ask if there are any free rooms for the week on facebook groups like this one. From there, emergent self-organization is very much encouraged!
What to bring
Swimwear and sunscreen: You can swim in the river and lake in summer. There will be no organized event to take you swimming but we can let you know of the best spots. It may also be useful to bring a small lock (as there are public lockers to keep your belongings), otherwise you can rent one.
Warm clothes: For Monday and Wednesday evening.
Writing material: We will provide notepads and pens. The lectures will be recorded (but not the software tutorials).
Laptop: Where you have already tried to install all the platforms. QuID volunteers can help you troubleshoot installation.
Id: You can rent public bikes for free in the city by leaving some form of official id.
